Focus Group Meeting - Dancing with Confidence - Friday 16th June

Dancing is a critical component of AAH's activities and will continue to be. Research has found that dancing improves hand-motor coordination and cognitive skills such as fluid intelligence, short-term memory, and impulse control.

About the event

The purpose of this meeting is for the AAH members (whether they have attended classes or not) to have their say in how the dance classes will be conducted. Coffee is on AAH. This will inform the new direction by ensuring members' expectations are met to achieve the desired goals. Over the last 12 months, I have heard several comments about the dance classes, including:

· Classes too long

· Too many dances are being taught at once; people want to gain competence in one dance before moving on to another

· The aim is not to become a ballroom dancer, as venues for this are limited. The main aim is to be confident on any dance floor.

· What is learnt is transferrable to the small dance floors available at most venues

· The need to open up the classes to include more members' access, have more sessions if needed, and perhaps have regular dance events to use your skills.

I am sure more issues could be discussed at the meeting, and you need your say so we can brief the new dance instructor and provide a tailored activity.

Please send any agenda points you would like to add.
